Again, my video:
Six months? I think I take for granted the fact that my video went viral. 'Take for granted?' you ask. I take it for granted not because having a lot of people see it is so great or anything. I couldn't care less about that. But I think it's safe to assume that everyone who knows me knows that I'm gay, so there is no awkward 'Do they know? Gosh, I wish they'd say something. Maybe they don't know. Ugghhhh, I'm going to go home and watch some YouTube videos now.' Though I do occasional bump into that anti-social-media friend of mine who's like, "So, do you have a girl friend yet?" I usually have some fun responding to those ones :)
My buddy Blake also came out via YouTube. While people watched it and it serves its purpose, it didn't go viral. He once asked, "Does it ever bother you when you're with a bunch of people and you're not sure who knows and who doesn't?" and I was like, "No."
Instead, people bring up the fact that they already know I'm gay by saying, "Hey... I saw your video..." I love it, "...I saw your video..." If I only had a piece of sushi for every time I heard that one haha! I love a good euphemism. Such a phrase is so easy for people to say. If they heard the news via the grape vine, then bringing it up would be much harder for many people. "Hey, uh... I was talking to your roommate... and they... well... I heard why you aren't too savvy on getting married so quickly and stuff...(looong awkward silence)..............(roommate walks into the room to make a hot pocket, so now the conversation either needs to end or be super weird)."
What's the moral of this story? It's easy for people to say, "Hey, I read your blog post," or, "I saw your video," or, "I saw your [something that informed me that you're totally gay yet sane and able]." If you're in the closet and want to come out out, then maybe consider posting something like a blog so people have an easy way of bringing it up. Otherwise, you may be in that awkward situation my buddy Blake has been in more than you'd like. But who am I do say? Be prayerful. Do what's best for you :)
